Preparing a banner for display

Much of the painted area of this double-sided painted silk banner suffered from disfiguring bloom before conservation. The unpainted silk was badly soiled and creased, and some of the silk had split.

We cleaned the banner, reduced the bloom and supported the weak areas. To help the client display the banner we lined it, incorporating a pole-sleeve for hanging the banner.
