A print damaged by damp
Damp conditions had caused the very light weight paper of this print to expand. Because it had been adhered to a card backing on the perimeter of the back of the sheet, the paper had nowhere to expand to, and ended up becoming wrinkled. The damp conditions had also caused mould growth on the right hand side of the paper, causing staining, and creating quite a large hole. Treatment was carried out to remove the mould spores, and then to release the paper from the card backing. The print was washed to reduce discolouration in the paper. The hole was filled with a toned paper pulp mixture, which recreated the continuous sheet. The print was pressed to make it flat. It was given a good quality acid free buffered card mount.
