1820's man's coat

This coat was found hidden in the rafters of a building. It proved to be a rare survivor of its period and kind. Moths had riddled large areas of the coat with holes. The coat was badly soiled with dust, insect pupae cases and droppings, particles of plaster and sand, and cobwebs. It was also severely creased and deformed. In this condition it was not fit for display in a museum.

We cleaned the coat and stabilised its damaged areas. We fitted the coat on display figure for an exhibition in a museum.
